Question
Article 2(1) of the Annex to Recommendation 2003/361/EC states that the category of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is made up of enterprises which employ fewer than 250 persons and which have an annual turnover not exceeding EUR 50 million, and/or an annual balance sheet total not exceeding EUR 43 million.
Deposit holders are not required to report (non-)financial data to the institution. Hence we might not have all underlying data to make this breakdown. Pending the implementation of an automated process, a pragmatic manual approach is applied to distinguish between micro & SME versus corporate. For the automated process, we might use public databases to capture missing information and link this to our customer base. Enterprises who do not report this data in their official accounts will be assigned to ‘100 Others/non-identified).
Response
We take note that there might be difficulties to assess the Micro & SME criteria for all counterparties. It should nonetheless be the aim, through improvements of internal systems, to be able to develop this assessment.
